Julius Spring/Summer 2015Japanese artist Tatsuro Horikawa, who is behind the label Julius, articulates his artistic vision to create a fascinating conceptual wear for men. His collections feature statement layered pieces in fluid sculptural forms. Tatsuro Horikawa uses the black color to reflect an avant-garde notion and a deep spiritual connection to the designer. His latest collection “Prism” was dedicated to Hans Rudolf Giger, the Swiss surrealist painter, sculptor and a set designer, who passed away on May 12, 2014. Tatsuro Horikawa was inspired by the work of American painter Wade Guyton, artist-sculptor Naum Gabo, photographer Josef Koudelka and the series of animation Neon Genesis Evangelion. The show started with silver-haired models dressed in black clothing. To create contrast in the looks, Tatsuro Horikawa also displayed white pieces. The lineup included three-dimensional shirts, drop crotch pants, oversized coats, sleeveless tux jackets, a variety of different tops and etc. The black boots had soles made from multiple prism shapes to relate to the theme. Tatsuro Horikawa explored by experimenting with artisanal craftsmanship and inclusiveness of the creations.
